Recording Screencasts with ScreenToaster

Adapted from Make Teach Easier by Damien Oh

1) First, Register. Don’t worry, the registration is free and it only takes you a minute.

2) Once you are registered and logged on, you can then click on the Record button to start your recording.

3) Before the Java applet can run, you need to first grant it permission to access your desktop. (This is safe.)

4) After you have approved the java applet, a window showing all the recording controls will pop up. This is where you configure your video setting and control when to start/pause/stop the recording. Options that can be configured include whether to capture the full desktop or only a defined rectangular area, select audio input source, and whether the web cam should be used. You can choose to record with our without sound.

5) When you are done with the setting, simply click on the Record button, or use the shortcut Alt + S to start recording.

  • To pause/resume recording, press Alt + S again.
  • To finish up and stop the recording completely, click on the Stop Recording button

6) When you are done recording, you can go back to add subtitles.

7) When you are finished editing your screencast, you can watch your recording or upload it to the ScreenToaster server. You have the option to make your screencast private or public.

8) Once your screencast has processed, scroll down to find the URL and embed code on the right-hand side of the page.

9) Copy your screencast's code and embed it on the MILI wiki at MILI Participant's Screencasts.
