Independent Learning Instructions

  1. Try using one of the 21st Century Literacies worksheets with a class.  Did it help your students better identify keywords and synonyms?
  2. Try using some of the additional Google search strategies on the Google Guide.  For instance, when you're searching Google News, use the "source:" or "location:" limiter and limit to articles from newspapers around Minnesota.
  3. Have you used the News Archive search?  Try searching the Archive to find a timeline for H1N1.
  4. Have you heard of Google Alerts?  Give Google a set of search terms to have articles matching those search terms sent to either your email or your RSS feed reader.  No need to search Google News over and over again for the same thing, have Google do it for you.
  5. What did you think of Google Books?  Did you add anything to your library in Google Books?
  6. Here's a 2-page summary of the Google Books Settlement from the American Library Association.  Visit this website to read additional information about the settlement from the American Library Association and then check out this Op-Ed piece in The New York Times from the co-founder and technology president at Google.  What do you think about the Google Book Settlement?  Blog about it.
  7. What about Google Scholar?  Would that be useful to your students or you for your own research?
  8. Are there any other Google tools you've used that you like?  Blog about them to let us know.
  9. Did you set up a Delicious account?  Blog your account name so other people in MILI can add you to their network in Delicious.
  10. Blog your experiences!
